Most of the time, when applying a filter to a feature class in QGIS, if a numerical value is stored as a string, QGIS is able to deal with that, and treat the value as a number. In some cases, for a currently unknown reason, the filter tool struggles with string values. The video below shows an example of this, and walks through the work around to solve the problem.
